Whether out in the country or under the big city lights, dancehalls are a cultural staple in the Lone Star State. Originally built by German and Czech immigrants in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, dancehalls served as community centers and gathering places for political posturing, trials, and even hangings! Though times and music have changed since the dancehall traditions started, Texas greats like Willie Nelson and Pat Green continue to play these historic venues, keeping the wooden floors alive and providing a place for people to come together and have a good time.
