River Legacy Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, founded in 1988 as a unique public-private partnership with the City of Arlington. The Foundation works hand-in-hand with the Arlington Parks and Recreation Department to provide funding for the preservation and expansion of River Legacy Parks. They have been instrumental in providing many of the amenities in the park, including the pavilions, pedestrian bridge, trails, grand entryway and canoe launch. Future projects include additional canoe launches and a wetland boardwalk. Their key initiative is to educate the next generation of environmental stewards using the resources of River Legacy Parks and the Living Science Center. Starting with children as young as three years old, their environmental education programs expose children to the wonders of nature and their place in it. Through education, they preserve the Trinity River and its unique eco-system.
