Arts Fifth Avenue

Arts Fifth Avenue (AFA) was incorporated and received its 501c3 designation in 1992. AFA's mission is to stimulate, develop and preserve interest in tap dance and other complementary art forms and to educate the general public, particularly youth, about this uniquely American dance form; and to provide a forum of expression for dancers, choreographers, musicians, composers and visual and performing artists.

    23rd Annual Celebration of National Tap Dance Day Arts Fifth Avenue 23rd Annual Celebration of National Tap Dance Day Presented by Arts Fifth Avenue at Arts Fifth Avenue May 25, 2012 In the 1600's, what ultimately became Tap dance originated in America with its roots in clogging and Irish step dance, Juba dance and African drumming. It is a uniquely American dance form, however, the term "Tap" did not come into popular use until the late 1800's and early 1900's during the era of minstrel shows and vaudeville.
