This free lecture is part of a continuing series that introduces the permanent collection and selected exhibitions on view at the Kimbell Art Museum and provides background on the traditions underlying the major schools of art. In this lecture, Jennifer Casler Price, curator for Asian and non-Western art at the Kimbell Art Museum, will discuss the basic tenets of the Hindu religion, explore the role of its primary deities, examine their iconographic features in Hindu art, and illustrate their function in the splendid Hindu temples in the south Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
